May 1, 2007 - Siegel & Strain Honored with Flex Your Power Award

Flex Your Power, California’s statewide energy efficiency campaign, has recognized Siegel & Strain as a leader in energy efficiency with a Flex Your Power Award. A total of 41 winners were selected from several hundred applicants for outstanding leadership in energy efficiency. Cumulatively, award winners over the last two years have saved more than $172 million, one billion kilowatt hours and reduced greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to removing almost 85,000 cars from the road. This year’s 5th Annual Flex Your Power Awards Ceremony was held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5 at the San Francisco Concourse Exhibition Center.

Siegel & Strain was highlighted for leadership and education in sustainable design and historic preservation. In addition to authoring "GreenSpec", the widely used industry guide on green materials, the firm has won numerous national awards for ecological design of buildings that respond to climate and decrease energy use and carbon emissions. One current project, the new City of Orinda City Hall, employs natural ventilation, daylighting and careful shading design to eliminate the need for compressor cooling. Completed in May 2007, the building is expected to reduce energy use by over 55%, carbon emissions by over 50%, and to receive a LEED gold rating.
